Twitter was angry, sad, indignant and clever following Xavier’s upset over Arizona in the Sweet 16 of 2017 March Madness

March Madness got off to a predictable start in 2017 with 26 of the higher seeds in the First Round advancing. However, that level of predictability didn’t last long at all. High seeds fell in droves in the Second Round and the upsets started to finally pour in. One such team to have earned two big upsets coming into the Sweet 16, though, was the Xavier Musketeers as the No. 11 seed.

On Thursday night, Trevon Bluiett and Xavier took on the No. 2-seed Arizona Widlcats. The latter were favored heavily with the likes of Allonzo Trier and Lauri Markkanen leading the way into the homes stretch of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

Despite Trier getting hot and the defense playing well, though, Xavier was ready to just play like the team that many thought they’d be when they were ranked in the top 10 in the season. They aren’t your typical No. 11-seed, and they let the Wildcats of Tuscon find that out the hard way. Now one of the biggest title contenders left has been sent packing.

There might’ve been some upsets that people were calling for in the Sweet 16 of 2017 March madness. However, not many people had the lowest remaining advancing to the Elite Eight over the Pac-12 Champions. That’s the beauty of the NCAA Tournament, though, and let’s just hope the rest of the path to a National Championship for whichever team is just as fan as it’s been in the Second Round and then to start the Sweet 16.
