DraftKings MLB Picks For April 4

The fervor of Opening Day is gone for most teams. Now we get to the grind of the rest of the 161 games. That kicks off here with most teams’ second options taking the mound. That said, there are still five pitchers priced at $8,800 or more. There are still pitchers at ace prices to choose from in our DraftKings tournaments!

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Martin Perez has given up seven runs in just 41 at bats to Cleveland, though no one player has really hit him hard.

Next: Pitcher Picks

DraftKings
Mar 23, 2017; Salt River Pima-Maricopa, AZ, USA; Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta (49) throws in the first inning during a spring training game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Mandatory Credit: Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Best Bets:

Jake Arrieta ($10,400): The Cardinals are only hitting .235 against Arrieta in 179 at bats. Moreover, they have hit just two homers, driven in only 12 runs, and struck out an unnerving 50 times. Arrieta was 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA in four starts against the Cardinals last year and struck out 26 in 22.2 innings pitched. You wont find a better option tonight.

Johnny Cueto ($10,200): Arizona is only 27-123 (.220) against Cueto, but they do have four homers. The good news ends there. 12 runs scored isn’t bad, but they  have struck out 35 times. Cueto’s high strikeout potential lands him in the top tier, where he will be often this year.

Honorable Mention:

Lance McCullers Jr. ($9,500): The current Mariner team is hitting a robust .294 against McCullers, but that has not led to much success. They have just three RBI in 51 at bats with no homers and 19 strikeouts. The high strikeout potential against a struggling and aging Iwakuma make McCullers one of the best mid-range options.

Jake Odorizzi ($7,800): What’s left of the Yankees are 29-130(.223) against Odorizzi with 27 strikeouts. They do have eight homers, but that has only resulted in 15 runs scored. Odorizzi will give up some runs, but the high potential for strikeouts and the likelihood of a win make Odorizzi a solid option.

Dark Horses:

Zach Davies ($6,500): The current Rockies are just 4-20 with five strikeouts against Davies in his young career. This game is at the much more favorable Miller Park, so you don’t have to worry about the Coors Field effect. Davies wont rack up huge strikeout numbers, but he has a good shot at a win.

Tyler Anderson ($5,900): The current Brewers are only hitting .231 in 15 at bats off of Anderson. He gave up a homer and two runs, but Anderson also struck out ten! Anderson wont go deep into the game, but the strikeout potential against a young offense make him an intriguing punt play.

Next: Who Are The Best Stacks?

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Not a stacker? You may not be alone. Matt McGarvey takes his stance against it. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

The Cubs have pounded Adam Wainwright for a .301 average, four homers, and 17 RBI in 123 at bats. You know there is a stack here! Willson Contreras ($3,200) has two hits in four at bats with a walk, a homer, and three RBI. Kris Bryant ($4,700) only has two hits in eight at bats against Wainwright, but they are both doubles and he has driven in a pair. Miguel Montero ($2,700) is 7-23(.304) with three walks, a homer, and two RBI against Wainwright. Anthony Rizzo ($4,500) is 11-36(.306) with three walks, a double, a homer, and five RBI. Jason Heyward ($2,900) has a double, a homer, and three RBI off Wainwright, but he is only 4-18. Addison Russell ($3,200) has four hits and a walk in seven at bats with two doubles and two RBI off Wainwright.

The A’s have five homers in only 96 at bats against Matt Shoemaker, but they are hitting only .219. There are homers to be had here, but it could be all or nothing. Khris Davis ($3,500), who homered twice last night, is 3-6 with two solo homers off of Shoemaker. Marcus Semien ($3,000) is 5-17(.294) with three walks, two doubles, and a solo homer against Shoemaker. Stephen Vogt ($2,900) has just three hits in 23 at bats (.130) against Shoemaker, but two of those hits are home runs and he has driven in five.

The Astros are hitting .335 against Hisashi Iwakuma, so you know there is a stack to be had here. Jose Altuve ($4,400) is 16-38(.421) with a walk, six doubles, a homer, and seven RBI. Carlos Beltran ($3,400) has six hits in 11 at bats with a walk, three doubles, a homer, and three RBI off Iwakuma. Carlos Correa ($4,400) has three hits in eight at bats with three walks, a double and a RBI. Marwin Gonzalez ($2,700) could be worth playing if he starts. Gonzalez is 11-25(.440) with three doubles, a homer, and three RBI. George Springer ($4,100) is just 4-21(.190) with ten strikeouts against Iwakuma, but he does have a homer and two RBI. Brian McCann ($3,000) only has two hits in eight at bats, but one of those is a three run homer.

The Padres are an impressive 35-93(.376) against Clayton Richard. Adrian Gonzalez ($3,400) is 10-17(.588) with a walk and five RBI. Franklin Gutierrez ($3,000) is a great option if he plays. Gutierrez is 8-15(.533) with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Yasiel Puig ($3,400) has three hits in six at bats against Richard with a double, a homer, and three RBI.

Greg Bird ($2,800) already has a walk, two homers, and four RBI in just five at bats against Jake Odorizzi. Starlin Castro ($2,800) has three hits in 11 at bats with a homer and two RBI against Odorizzi. Matt Holliday ($3,200) has a walk and two solo homers in five at bats off Odorizzi. Aaron Judge ($3,000) has only faced Odorizzi twice. He has a walk and a solo homer. Gary Sanchez ($4,000) has a two run homer in his three at bats off Odorizzi.

The Rays are hitting an impressive .340 against CC Sabathia. Kevin Kiermaier ($3,100) has two singles and two solo homers in five at bats against Sabathia. Evan Longoria ($4,000) is 29-72(.403) with 13 walks, nine doubles, seven homers, and 16 RBI off of CC. Derek Norris ($2,600) has three hits in nine at bats with a double, a homer, and five RBI already against Sabathia. Steven Souza ($3,200) has five hits in 11 at bats with two walks and a solo homer against Sabathia.

The Giants don’t hit a lot of pitchers hard, but Patrick Corbin is one they do. Brandon Crawford ($3,400) is 7-23(.304) with a walk, a triple, two homers, and five RBI against Corbin. Hunter Pence ($4,000) is an impressive 12-25(.480) with two walks, three doubles, a triple, four homers, and nine RBI off Corbin. Buster Posey ($3,900) is 11-35(.314) with five walks, two doubles, and two RBI.

Next: More Notes For 4-4

Apr 3, 2017; Oakland, CA, USA; Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout (27) hits a two run homer during the third inning in front of Oakland Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt (21) at Oakland Coliseum. Mandatory Credit: Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Adams ($2,700) is a solid 7-22 (.318) against Jake Arrieta with four walks, two doubles, and four RBI. Randal Grichuk ($3,300) has four hits in 12 at bats with a double, a triple, a homer, and three RBI against Arrieta.

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,600) is 6-25(.240) with two doubles, a homer, and five RBI against Johnny Cueto. Jake Lamb ($3,600) is 5-14 with two doubles, a homer, and two RBI against Cueto. Brandon Drury ($3,100) has three walks and three singles while only recording two outs against Cueto. However, all of the hits are singles and he only has one RBI.

Mike Trout ($4,800) has two walks, two singles, and a solo homer in six plate appearances against Sean Manaea. Jefry Marte ($2,900) only has one hit in six at bats against Manaea, but it is a three run homer. However, it is hard to use someone that likely wont start.

Robinson Cano ($4,100) is 6-14(.429) against Lance McCullers Jr., but all of the hits are singles and he only has one RBI. Leonys Martin ($2,900) has a walk, a double, two triples, and a RBI in five at bats against McCullers. Kyle Seager ($3,800) has three hits and two walks in 12 at bats, but only has a double and a RBI to show for it.

Elvis Andrus ($3,500) is 5-14 with two doubles and five RBI against Carlos Carrasco. Robinson Chirinos ($2,800) may find playing time hard to come by, but if he starts, he has two solo homers in nine at bats against Carrasco.

Ryan Braun ($4,700) has a solo homer in three at bats against Tyler Anderson. Jonathan Villar ($4,000) has a single, a double, and a RBI against Anderson.

The Padres are only 7-42 (.167) against Kenta Maeda, but they have as many runs as hits in that time! They have struck out 15 times, but the runs that Maeda gives up hurt his bottom line. Hunter Renfroe ($2,700) has a three run homer as his hit in two at bats against Maeda. Wil Myers ($3,800) is only 2-11(.182) against Maeda, but he has a triple and three RBI.
