Los angelesDodgers legend and former Co-World Series MVP Pedro Guerrero is in critical condition after suffering a brain hemorrhage on Monday night.
Former Dodgers All-Star Pedro Guerrero is “fighting for his life” after suffering from an interventricular hemorrhage Monday night. There was a lot of speculation about what exactly happened to Guerrero. Guerrero has had a history of strokes in the past including suffering one in February 2015.
According to the hospital chief, Rafael Ortiz, Guerrero remains in critical condition. “It could go either way. He’s still recovering and could go on to live a meaningful life, but it’s too early to tell.”
Pedro Guerrero won one Silver Slugger award and was also named co-MVP in the 1981 World Series. In that Fall Classic, Guerrero hit .333 with two home runs and seven RBI, leading the Dodgers to the title. Guerrero was known for his powerful bat and tough demeanor at the plate.
Guerrero was also known for his hard lifestyle. He admitted that he didn’t treat baseball like the everyday job that it was in a 2010 interview with Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. “I feel I did a good job in the time I played, but not as good as I was supposed to be if I lived the life I’m living now,” Guerrero said. “I would have put up better numbers and been a better person. I’m not a bad guy. I used to come to the park with a hangover every day and I could still play like that. Can you imagine if I had been 100 percent sober all the time? It’s too late now to think about, but I can tell the kids what it did to me.”
