9. Gonzaga tops West Virginia in wild final minute

It was likely the ugliest game of the NCAA Tournament overall, but Gonzaga-West Virginia ended on a memorable note with a crazy final minute.

West Virginia played the game at its preferred pace and physical style, leading to a close contest throughout. While the Mountaineers shot just 26 percent from the field for the game, Gonzaga turned the ball over 16 times, surrendered 20 offensive rebounds, and the two teams combined for a ridiculous 51 personal fouls.

The top-seeded Bulldogs looked to be in trouble after West Virginia opened up a 52-49 advantage as the clock ticked under six minutes. Both teams traded punches over the final few minutes, with Gonzaga eventually going back in front by a point at the 1:31 mark.

Nathan Adrian appeared to have a wide open go-ahead layup, but Josh Perkins came out of nowhere to block the shot. Gonzaga won the ensuing scramble for the lose ball, and Nigel Williams-Goss found Jordan Matthews for a transition three to put the Bulldogs up 60-58.

Jevon Carter missed a game-tying perimeter jumper before Adrian grabbed an offensive rebound with 18 seconds left. West Virginia mysteriously dribbled down the clock on a disjointed final possession, and was unable even to get another shot off before the buzzer to send Gonzaga to the Elite Eight.
