Marshawn Lynch will officially be returning to the NFL in 2017. The Seahawks are expected to trade him to the Raiders.

We haven’t seen the last of Beast Mode in the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks are expected to trade him to the Oakland Raiders. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport broke the story.

Lynch did not play during the 2016 season and currently remains on the reserved retirement list. Rapoport also adds that if Lynch is traded, he does not have to fill out paperwork for reinstatement. The trade would be an obvious indication that he intends to play according to NFL Rules.

Lynch has made a push to play for the Raiders as he is originally from the Oakland area. He also played his collegiate ball at the University of California and has always had an affinity for his Oakland routes.

After the Raiders lost Latavius Murray earlier this offseason, the running back position has been a clear area of need for the Raiders. Oakland also has Dwayne Washington and Jalen Richard on the depth chart but are more of change-of-pace options. The Raiders could still target a running back in the NFL Draft but there is much less urgency now to do so.

Currently, it is unclear what exactly Oakland will trade in exchange for the veteran running back. The Raiders likely won’t have to give up a significant compensation to trade for Lynch. My best guess would be a late round draft pick with possible conditional stipulations based on playing time, rushing yards, etc.

Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles are some of the bigger names available on the free-agent market at the running back position. it’s hard to imagine that neither will get a job before September, with camp taking its toll on every team.
