The Pittsburgh Penguins will have to continue investing their trust into Marc-Andre Fleury.

According to head coach Mike Sullivan, there is no set timetable for Matt Murray to return to action. The 22-year-old netminder was injured in warmups Wednesday. There is no word on how serious the injury is.

Murray is just another key loss for Pittsburgh as they start their 2017 playoff campaign. The Penguins have already lost Kris Letang to injury, which is a serious hit to their blueline. Now, they will be without their top man between the pipes indefinitely.

The Penguins’ up-and-coming starter was dominant in the playoffs last year. He was one of the big reasons they won the Stanley Cup, going above and beyond and standing on his head as a rookie between the pipes. A rookie in his own right, Murray brought the Penguins far and proved to stand tall in the face of adversity and injuries in the crease.

However, the Penguins proved they can cope, dominating Game 1 with a 3-1 victory over Columbus. Fleury made 31 saves in the win and showed that he can still carry the team. Of course, Phil Kessel and Nick Bonino shined bright as well, contributing plenty to Pittsburgh’s offense.

If Fleury can continue to stand tall, the Penguins will have nothing to worry about. However, he will likely return to the bench once Murray is ready to return to action unless he is bringing too much momentum to the ice.
