DraftKings Late MLB Picks For April 20

There are seven games in the late DraftKings tonight. We have four pitchers priced as aces tonight. Are any of them worth paying for? Paying up for pitching worked last night. Will it again? Are there enough bargains to be found? Let’s check out the past stats for some help in this matter!

More from DFS

The money line was way up at 125.8 tonight. One lineup made it easily thanks to Bryce Harper and a late switch to Joe Ross. The other missed badly because my cheap hitting lineup was awful with the exception of Corey Dickerson.

The winning lineup was predictably high at 230.5. Perhaps more surprising was the fact that it was a full ten points better than second place! That’s hard to do in baseball! He had Clayton Kershaw and Jason Vargas, along with a Nationals stack and Josh Reddick.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Apr 14, 2017; Miami, FL, USA; New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (34) delivers a pitch during the first inning against the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Noah Syndergaard ($11,800): His early exit from Friday’s start was not a result of a recurring blister, but a torn fingernail. Wait…..Thor has fingernails? At any rate, he is planning on pitching with fake nails tonight. If that works, he is a great play. Thor has dominated the Phillies, holding them to a .161 average in 62 at bats with two homers, four runs, and a whopping 17 strikeouts. There is a little more risk involved than usual, but unless some news comes out that his finger is bugging him, I’m taking that chance. He is by far the best option tonight.

P: Carlos Martinez ($9,000): The Brewers are hitting a respectable .286 against Martinez in 63 at bats, but they only have one extra base hit (a Jonathan Villar double) and two runs scored with a staggering 23 strikeouts. I love the strikeout potential, and the win potential against the struggling Kyle Davies.

C: Hector Sanchez ($2,500): Are you looking for a cheap sleeper? Look no further than Sanchez. Sanchez is 7-13(.538) with two doubles and a staggering seven RBI already against Patrick Corbin. Austin Hedges is due for a day off, right? If so, Sanchez is a great sneaky play.

1B: Freddie Freeman ($4,400): Few have figured out how to hit Stephen Strasburg. Freeman is one of them. Freddie is 14-35(.400) with six walks, three doubles, four homers, and a staggering 13 RBI against Strasburg. Harper owns Teheran. Freeman returns the favor against Strasburg.

2B: Adam Rosales ($2,400): James Paxton has been brilliant this year, not giving up a single run over 21 innings in his first three starts. The luck may stop here. Oakland has hit him well in his career. None more than Rosales, who is 3-9 with a walk, a homer, and three RBI against Paxton. I will take the salary relief to pay for a better pitcher in this one!

3B: Manny Machado ($4,600): Machado remembers Scott Feldman quite fondly from when he was in the American League Machado is 5-11 with a walk, a double, a triple, two homers, and six RBI against Feldman, and now he gets to face him in a very hitter friendly environment. Advantage: Machado.

SS: Freddy Galvis (3,000): Yes, Galvis is facing Syndergaard, but hear me out. Galvis has hit both of the team’s home runs off of Syndergaard and driven in three of the four runs. Galvins could be a great bargain tonight. For this price, I’m going to find out!

OF: Rajai Davis ($3,700): . Davis has done his part in the Paxton bashing as well. He is 3-6 with a triple and a solo homer against Paxton. I guess this would be why I’m not paying for Paxton’s hot start. I don’t trust this matchup tonight. Now go ahead and play him because he will prove me wrong!

OF: Michael Conforto ($3,500): Conforto sat last night despite good splits, but he is about the only Met that has hit Aaron Nola. That should count for something, right? Conforto has one hit in two tries against Nola. It is a two run homer. Conforto is worth playing if he starts. If he doesn’t, I’m going with Yasmany Tomas. Tomas is 4-7 with a homer and three RBI against Clayton Richard.

OF: A.J. Pollock ($4,100): Pollock has two hits in eight tries against Clayton Richard. Both hits are for extra bases, a double and a homer, and he has plated three. Arizona is hitting .305 against Richard in 59 at bats so far. Feel free to stack more against him!

Apr 15, 2017; Seattle, WA, USA; Seattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton throws out a pitch against the Texas Rangers during the fourth inning at Safeco Field. Mandatory Credit: Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports /

The second lineup will be a little different today. It will be a series of mini stacks against struggling pitchers like Kyle Davies and I definitely want a piece of Cesar Valdez in his first appearance in the majors since 2010. I also want a lot of exposure to the Reds-Orioles game despite both Wade Miley and Scott Feldman pitching well so far this year.

P: James Paxton ($9,600): I am well aware of Paxton’s rough history against Oakland. I brought it up in the first lineup, remember? I also don’t care. He is dialed in right now, and though Oakland has a solid lineup, I don’t think they light up Paxton enough to offset the strikeouts and the overall dominance that he could display once again.

P: Danny Duffy ($9,000): This one is a little tougher for me to do because the Rangers, Napoli in particular, have knocked Duffy around some. However, Duffy is also locked in, and only seems to be getting better. He has the ability to rack up some big strikeout numbers. I will take that chance here.

C: Tucker Barnhart ($2,900): Barnhart is off to a good start, and even though he has not hit a home run yet, he is still hitting .278. I want a lot of Cincinnati righties against Miley.

1B: Mike Napoli ($4,100): Okay, taking a break from the stack here for a second. Napoli is 4-5 with two home runs in his career against Danny Duffy. It’s worth a shot!

2B: Robinson Cano ($4,400): Cesar Valdez has a 7.36 career ERA in nine appearances (two starts), all back in 2010. Good luck!

3B: Manny Machado ($4,600): His numbers are so good, I’m playing him twice.

SS: Zack Cozart ($3,600): He does have a home run in his career against Wade Miley. Can he get another?

OF: Adam Duvall ($4,400): He also has a homer against Miley already. He gets my vote for most likely to get another.

OF: Mitch Haniger ($3,600): He is hot, and playing against a suspect starter. Just like yesterday.

OF: Nelson Cruz ($4,500): Nellie is starting to come around. He has two homers in his last four games.
