Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg belted a home run of his own on Friday night.
Stephen Strasburg has long been one of the Washington Nationals’ best pitchers. He came up in 2010, and despite early injuries, has mostly dominated since. This includes an ERA only eclipsing 3.50 just once in his career.
At 28-years-old, Strasburg is entering the prime of his career. He’s already keeping a steady ERA at just above 3.00, with a WHIP of just 1.00 as he went into Friday’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Well, it seems the San Diego State product developed some power in one of the core seasons of his MLB career. He crushed a home run off Phillies pitcher Nick Pivetta, flying over the wall in left-center field. This marked just the second home run of Strasburg’s career, which put the Nationals up, 2-0.
With Bryce Harper out of the lineup for this game, this is an unusual but productive way of filling in the potential statistics that he would have put up. It’s also Strasburg helping his case on the mound, giving himself an opening in case the Phillies muster a run or two. Let’s see if he can keep the game in control, along with the rest of the lineup giving him more support.

Overall, the Nationals have been on a roll. They’re 19-9, which is the best record in the MLB. They have a 6.5 game lead over the Miami Marlins, New York Mets and Phillies, each of whom have a 12-15 record. So, there’s an opportunity for Washington to pull away quickly and soon. They’re being led by the likes of Daniel Murphy, Trea Turner and Ryan Zimmerman, all three of which are having All-Star-caliber seasons. We’ll see how this group does as the season continues.
