Brock Osweiler said he believes the “proof is in the film” when asked by a somewhat combative reporter about why he can start in the NFL.

Brock Osweiler has done plenty of things on the football field that has made people scratch their heads. He was asked Wednesday by a reporter obviously trying to get a rise out of him if he believes he is a starting quarterback in the NFL, to which he replied yes. While a player believing they can succeed is not surprising, his reasoning for that belief is a bit perplexing.

Why does he believe he should start, you ask? “I think the proof is in the film for the past two years”, said Osweiler.

If you are doing a double take, you aren’t the only one. Osweiler struggled after signing a big deal with the Houston Texans, throwing for 2,957 yards, 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His QBR was only 55.3 and he lost his starting job at one point during the season.

While he did start two games in the playoffs, he only threw for a total of 365 yards to go along with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Texans were able to get out from under his large contract after only one season, moving him to the Cleveland Browns in what was essentially a salary dump.

Osweiler enters the season in a competition for the starting quarterback job with Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan and DeShone Kizer. None of those options are overly appetizing, but that’s been the state of the quarterback position for the Browns for quite some time.

If Osweiler had said he believes he can start because he has learned from his mistakes, put in some extra work over the offseason or something to that effect, this would have barely registered on the NFL story radar.

Where is this film that proves he should be a starter in the NFL though? Maybe it’s being kept with the video proof of the Loch Ness Monster. We’ll keep searching.
