Morris Claiborne will be a huge part of the New York Jets defense during the 2017 NFL season, but thinks he can be much more.

The New York Jets are not expected to be very good during the 2017 NFL season, but one player thinks he can be the best in the league at his position. Morris Claiborne, who the team plucked from the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, feels he can be the “No. 1 corner in the league, if he is healthy.” Claiborne was a part of a Cowboys defense that led the team to the best record in the NFC last season, though the team lost in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Staying with cornerbacks, Justin Gilbert continues to ruin what could have been a very productive NFL career. The former No. 8 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft was suspended for four games for violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers back in February, Gilbert will now have to find a team that will not only take on the troubled corner, but will also have to sit out four games if he finds a home.

A fellow first rounder who appears to be turning his career around is Dante Fowler, who missed time due to a different reason early in his career. Fowler, the No. 3 overall pick in 2015, sat out his rookie season after blowing up his knee in rookie camp. After racking up four sacks last season, Fowler has had a tremendous offseason, and believes he will be in for a breakout season in 2017.

The Los Angeles Rams lost two of their top wide receiver options this offseason, as Brian Quick and Kenny Britt moved on to new cities. Robert Woods, who was a standout player for the Buffalo Bills the last few seasons will be the top option at the position this season, joining Tavon Austin atop the depth chart. Jared Goff, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft will be expected to take the next step forward in 2017, and the addition of Woods should help that out a lot.

Next: 30 replacements for Roger Goodell

Finally, the Detroit Lions added to their running back corps this weekend, agreeing with Matt Asiata on a one-year deal. Asiata has played the last five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, for which he scored 18 touchdowns. The Lions finished No. 30 in the NFL in rushing last season, and Asiata can certainly add some bruising running up the middle.
