The Mets have been an injured team for a couple of years. With that, it means someone has to step up. This time, it’s Curtis Granderson, but for how long?

The New York Mets have a solid roster, when all healthy. That caveat has prevented the team from reaching great success and fantasy owners to get the most of those players. The team has suffered a lot of injuries to both the offense and starting rotation over the last two seasons. With that, though, comes an opportunity for others.

Curtis Granderson has been relegated to a bench option with the rise of Michael Conforto, but has gotten extensive playing time because of injuries. He has started five straight games in center field as Conforto deals with a hand injury. He was struck on the padding of his left hand below the pinkie finger in an at-bat on June 25 against the Giants.

Conforto has missed the last three games and will likely land on the DL if he cannot play this Saturday. If he does, though, it will likely be backdated, shortening his DL stint. This will give Granderson a spot in the outfield until then.

More from Fantasy Baseball

Fantasy owners are aware as he’s been added in 11.6 percent of ESPN leagues over the last week.

Over the last eight games, Granderson is hitting the ball better than before. He has a .382 average with five home runs, nine RBI and 12 runs scored. Granderson is also showing more patience at the plate with his 8:6 K:BB ratio.

The only negative is that he isn’t driving in a lot of runs, but that’s on his teammates to get into scoring position.

I’ve added him to my team for that reason. Also, because I have three players on the DL but that’s another story.

He is getting it done at the plate day in and day out and it’s hard to find a player like that on the waiver wire at this stage in the game.

Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce flank Granderson on either side of the outfield. With their track record, either one of them could get hurt and Granderson could stay in the lineup for an even longer amount of time.

Granderson can still hit for power, as he’s hit 76 home runs in his last three seasons with the Mets. While he may not get hurt, 462 games played in those seasons, he is a bit streaky. I would add him if you need power and runs but be aware that his production can quickly drop off by next week.
