DraftKings Late MLB Picks For July 23

We only have five games this afternoon, but there are just as many aces here as in the early DraftKings slate. Should we pay up for one or more? Is Kershaw worth the extra money? Which game should be stacked? Let’s take a look!

More from DFS

The money line last night was a solid 126.55 DraftKings points. My Royals stack just missed because of David Price. The other lineup failed because of lack of hitting.

The winning lineup was down a bit to 215.9. He gambled and won big with Danny Salazar. Ryan Braun and Mike Moustakas led his hitters over the top.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

ANAHEIM, CA – JUNE 14: Matt Holliday #17 of the New York Yankees points to the dugout after hitting a single during the fifth inning of a game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on June 14, 2017 in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images) /

P: Clayton Kershaw ($13,600): Asking if Kershaw is worth it is kind of stupid at this point, right? His numbers are even more ridiculous at home. Kershaw already has 15 wins. Playing in front of this offense, he may win 30 this year! No, I’m not joking! The Braves have homered twice against him in 97 at bats, but they have also struck out 29 times. Robbie Ray and Stephen Strasburg are tempting, but Chase Field is a true hitter’s park. Don’t get cute. You need Kershaw.

P: Ty Blach ($6,700): Blach struggled in June, but he now has three straight quality starts. His low strikeout totals will chase many off, but the Padres are bottom three against lefties this season, and in a great pitching haven. Blach has turned in a solid 3.57 ERA at home this season. I like him to rattle off another quality start here, which will work just fine at this price.

C: Carlos Ruiz ($2,800): Cessa has an awful 6.57 road ERA this season, so I expect Seattle to keep right on hitting here. Ruiz will likely get the start in the day game after the night game, so I will start my Mariners stack here.

1B: Matt Holliday ($3,800): Arizona is the only real hitter’s park in this light slate, but with Ray and Strasburg taking the hill there, it seems to me that two weak pitchers in Seattle will result in more runs. Holliday is 12-35(.343) with five walks, two doubles, a triple, four homers, ten runs scored, and ten RBI in his career against Yovani Gallardo. Gallardo has pitched much better since his move to the bullpen, but he will get the start here, where he has a 6.09 ERA at home. I’m stacking this whole game!

2B: Ian Happ ($4,300): Happ has only faced Michael Wacha three times. He homered twice in that game and drove in four. I will pay for the chance that he does it again.

3B: Todd Frazier ($3,800): Frazier did pick up a hit in his Yankee debut, but he doesn’t have one since. However, he is 13-37(.351) with a walk, a homer, six runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Yovani Gallardo. I will take the chance that he breaks out of it tonight.

SS: Jean Segura ($4,400): Three of Segura’s 12 steals have come in the last ten games. He is also leading off for a team that could score a lot of runs this afternoon. His price almost seems low, all things considered.

OF: Ben Gamel ($4,100): Gamel continues to thrive in the two hole. I actually find myself stacking more against Cessa than Gallardo. Some of that is due to price, but the rest is because Gallardo moving to the bullpen for a spell may have been just what he needed to get back on track.

OF: Jacoby Ellsbury ($3,500): Ellsbury is 6-17(.353) with a walk, a double,a triple, four runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Yovani Gallardo. I like the cheapness of Ellsbury still. He could fit nicely in this lineup today.

OF: Mitch Haniger ($3,000): Haniger seems to be getting back into his early season form since this return from the disabled list. He has four hits in the first three games of this series with the Yankees. Facing Cessa should give him plenty of opportunities to keep his streak going.
