Chelsea and Arsenal have agreed to a fee for the transfer of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Chelsea fans rejoice, help is on the way. The Blues have reportedly agreed to a fee that will bring Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Stamford Bridge from Arsenal. The fee will be around £35 million. Oxlade-Chamberlain will now head to West London to discuss personal terms and agree to a deal before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Blues have had their eye on Oxlade-Chamberlain for a number of weeks as they look to strengthen their numbers. Arsenal offered the England international a new deal on Thursday for £180,000 per week. However, he declined in favor of a move to Chelsea. Arsene Wenger approved the move to cash in on Oxlade-Chamberlain rather than let him walk for free in a year when his contract expires.

Oxlade-Chamberlain heads to west London in search of more regular play time. Ultimately, the deal works out well for both parties as Chelsea are in desperate need of reinforcements. Especially with Champions League play around the corner and the transfer window coming to a close.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has gained some crucial experience in a 3-4-3 system over the last few months as a wing-back for the Gunners. Which, ideally, is exactly where Antonio Conte would like him to play at Chelsea. Victor Moses, although improved, has yet to prove to Conte that he is Champions League caliber. Oxlade-Chamberlain will provide depth and competition for Moses at right wing-back.

Despite an early season panic, things seem to be finally going Chelsea’s way. The Blues are now coming off two strong outings against Spurs and Everton, where they captured six points. Additionally, Eden Hazard looks to rejoin the squad on the other side of the international break. Oxlade-Chamberlain is more good news for the Blues, as well. However, it is unlikely that Oxlade-Chamberlain will be the last signing for Chelsea before the deadline.
