Johnny Manziel tried out for a CFL team last week. They didn’t want him.

On Aug. 23-24 in Buffalo, the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats put the former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel through different mental and physical tests in order to determine his capability.

They determined Manziel is not mentally or physically ready to play football at a professional level. One source from the team said the quarterback has “too many red flags.” Among those red flags are reports that Manziel just is not committed to playing professional football.

Manziel could not convince the Ticats that he could help their 0-8 team which has terrible struggles at quarterback. Their current quarterback is Zach Collaros, who just happens to be the worst passer in the CFL while somehow being the highest paid.

The Ticats also were not convinced Manziel’s daily workout schedule was not the schedule of someone who wants to play in the NFL or CFL at a moment’s notice. He reportedly was not even in game shape for the workout.

Manziel also gave a recent interview in which he stated he already has plans for if/when his playing career is not revived. Manziel appeared to be content coaching college football instead of playing. If the Ticats’ report is true, he is also nowhere near ready to help young men grow both physically and mentally.

Bringing in the troubled quarterback for a tryout is just the latest sign of desperation from the worst club in the CFL this year. Just days ago, Hamilton attempted and failed to bring in the scandalous Art Briles as an assistant head coach.

The Ticats are in a bad place. Their highly paid quarterback was recently benched. They have a new head coach in June Jones. They are 0-8. The team is already bad at football, and they need to stop putting themselves in the limelight because they are bad at decisions as well.
