The Kyrie Irving-Isiah Thomas trade may get resolved after all

The proposed trade that would bring Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics and Isiah Thomas to the Cleveland Cavaliers may get a resolution.

Last season’s NBA Eastern Conference adversaries may finally get the trade they’ve proposed completed. The two have agreed in principle on a deal that would swap All-Star point guards Kyrie Irving and Isiah Thomas. Cleveland would also receive Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the highly coveted 2018 Brooklyn Nets first round pick in exchange for Irving.

The deal hit a snag when Thomas’ physical alerted (or emphasized)

Cleveland to red flags. Thomas suffered a hip injury last season. He aggravated the same labrum in his hip and it cost him a chance to duel against the same Cavaliers he will be playing alongside.

The two teams have until Thursday’s 10:00 AM EST deadline to complete the trade.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported yesterday that Cleveland is looking for more than the original package. However, reports of the Cavaliers requesting one of Boston’s talented youngsters are incorrect.

"Cleveland and Boston officials started to engage each other on a solution Tuesday, league sources told ESPN. The Cavs are no longer seeking one of the Celtics’ top young players, but they are still determined to land one of Boston’s first-round picks as compensation, and the conversation has included second-round considerations, too, league sources said."

The top young players in question were Jaylen Brown and rookie Jayson Tatum. The two former lottery picks are building blocks for the Celtics, and seem to be off the table.

Cleveland is hoping the additions can make up for the offensive loss of Irving and aid a porous defense. They also see the trade giving them the ability to better guard the rival Warriors.

Isiah Thomas is confident he will return to the level he was at pre-injury, regardless of where he plays. With LeBron James’ free agency looming, Cleveland better hope so.
