Tom Herman will begin his Texas Longhorns tenure with a battle at home against Maryland on Saturday.

The anticipation hasn’t been this high in some time for the Texas Longhorns. With Tom Herman taking over the program, expectations are high and the team will have plenty to deliver on in the 2017 season.

On Saturday, the Longhorns begin their season with a game at home against the Maryland Terrapins. After a roller coaster of a season last year, the Longhorns will aim to find some consistency right away.

The Terrapins are looking to improve over a mediocre 2016. They will face a tough test on the road against a team that is looking to come out and make a statement right away at home in front of a rabid fan base.

Shane Buechele showed a lot of promise during his first year with Texas. If he can prove to be the starter long term, it will make Herman’s life a lot easier while he continues to rebuild the rest of the program.

On the defensive side of the ball, look for Malik Jefferson to be active. As one of the best pass rushers in the nation, Jefferson has a motor that can’t be topped and is absolutely relentless with his pursuit. This is a game that has all the opportunity to provide the Longhorns with a little momentum going forward.
