UAB football honors children’s hospital patients with personalized jerseys
The UAB Blazers made a nice gesture on Saturday by wearing jerseys displaying the names of patients at nearby Children’s Harbor Family Center.
Just about everyone in the college football world is already a fan of the UAB Blazers following the team’s two-year hiatus, but they continue to generate goodwill anyway.
UAB will be wearing special personalized jerseys with the names of patients at Children’s Harbor Family Center on the back during Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech at Legion Field. Here’s a peek at what the jerseys will look like, via Fox College Football’s Twitter account.

The Blazers also Tweeted out a full list of players with their corresponding patient.

Children’s Harbor Family Center is located just a block away from UAB’s campus and was adopted by the Blazers in 2016 as one of the team’s community charities. The 2017 college football season has included a number of heartwarming gestures including the Iowa Hawkeyes waving to patients at a nearby children’s hospital during every game, and UAB’s jerseys are certainly a welcome addition.
UAB was controversially disbanded in December of 2014 as allegations that the Alabama Board of Trustees conspired to ruin Blazer football. While more than 50 players transferred to other schools, head coach Bill Clark refused to take another job, and it the Blazers were reinstated beginning in the 2017 season just months later.

Surprisingly, the Blazers have managed to be competitive in their first season back with a mark of 2-2 so far. Beating perennial Conference USA contender Louisiana Tech on Saturday would be huge, but the Blazers have inspired many fans no matter what happens on the field this weekend.
