The Indianapolis Colts defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in Week 5, 26-23. Here are all the highlights, the game recap and the final score.

For a game that featured two of arguably the worst teams in football, the Week 5 game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers sure was exciting. It went into overtime with the home team Colts winning it on a 51-yard field goal from the ageless Adam Vinatieri, 26-23.

Indianapolis improves to 2-3 on the year, while the 49ers are one of three teams that remain winless at 0-5, along with the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants. Both teams played well enough to win in Indianapolis on Sunday, but it would be the Colts that could come away with an overtime victory.

It was tied up at 6-6 at halftime in a snoozer of a football game. Neither team could get into rhythm offensively. That was about to change in the second half and in overtime. The Colts came to life when quarterback Jacoby Brissett was able to lean on his running game of veteran Frank Gore and rookie Marlon Mack.

San Francisco looked solid at times. That largely hinged on quarterback Brian Hoyer having a solid early season rapport with rookie tight end George Kittle out of Iowa. Hoyer would find Kittle on a game-tying touchdown inside of 20 seconds left to force overtime at 23-23.

Overtime was strange as neither team was able to get points on their extra possession. Brissett would be picked off in the red zone by San Francisco. However, the 49ers were unable to get in field goal range thanks to a pair of dumb penalties.

After getting the ball back inside of four minutes left in overtime, Brissett and the Colts would do enough offensively to get in Vinatieri’s range for the game winner. This was the second game that the Colts played in overtime this season.

After losing at home in Week 1 to the Arizona Cardinals, the Colts did enough to get a big second win of the season. The 49ers aren’t playing horribly, but just haven’t figured out how to win just yet under first year head coach Kyle Shanahan.

They’ll win eventually, but an 0-5 start means their slim playoff dreams are dashed. Indianapolis is only a game back of the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars entering Week 6.
