Jay Cutler’s honeymoon at Hard Rock Stadium in his first home game with the Miami Dolphins was a brief one, as fans were booing before halftime.

There are few dynamics as fluid as the relationship between a quarterback and his home fans. Jay Cutler of the Miami Dolphins has had an on-off relationship with fan bases in Denver and Chicago, but no group turned on him faster than the crowd Sunday at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

The Dolphins hosted the Tennessee Titans in their first real home game of the season (their 20-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints last week was a “home” game in London), with Cutler making his fourth start in place of injured Ryan Tannehill.

It has not gone entirely well, even with the Dolphins leading on the scoreboard in the second quarter.

“Moore” refers to backup quarterback Matt Moore. Cutler was signed after Tannehill went down during the preseason with a torn ACL, ending a brief retirement.

To be fair to the fans, Cutler was been dumpster-fire awful in the first half, finishing the opening two quarters 5-for-11 for 21 yards and throwing an interception. Miami’s only touchdown came on a 38-yard fumble recovery by Rashad Jones.

The Dolphins have caught a break in that the Titans have quarterback troubles of their own. Veteran Matt Cassel is making his first start since Week 17 last season with Marcus Mariota sidelined for two to four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Cassel’s first-half line looked nice in terms of percentage, 12-for-17, but those 12 completions were for just 54 yards, a not-so-nifty 3.2 yards per attempt.

That’s a Hall-of-Fame worthy number, however, compared to Cutler’s first-half YPA of 1.9.

Coming into the game, Cutler had thrown for 614 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in his first three games for Miami, which did not play in Week 1 due to Hurricane Irma. Cutler is in his 12th NFL season and his popularity may be at an all-time low.
