2. New England Patriots

The Patriots are not the same team who won the Super Bowl in February. While that may sound like common sense, no one expected the 2017 Patriots to be this different. The Pats sit at 3-2 and the league-worst defense has only held one team to less than 20 points this season. They’ve given up 30 or more points in three games.

The Patriots traded away linebacker Jamie Collins, and lost defensive end Chris Long, linebacker Barkevious Mingo, and cornerback Logan Ryan, and had to shelve linebacker Shea McClellin to the IR. The Patriots have seen their once-great defense slowly erode, piece by piece.

Yes, Bill Belichick has done this before and made it work. This time, though, it’s not worked out the way he hoped. The Patriots defensive backfield, which needs to be the strength of their defense, has not performed like it should. The team only has 10 sacks, which is tied for 24th in the league.

The Patriots need something to change.

Bringing in NaVorro Bowman could at least be the beginning piece of that change. While he will not generate a lot of sacks, he will help the team’s struggling defense. He is a player that can come in, replace Kyle Van Noy, and make some plays that actually help the defense.
