It’s Week 12 of the 2017 college football season. One game that you will definitely want to check out going on in The American on Saturday will be the one between the SMU Mustangs (6-4) and the No. 21 Memphis Tigers (8-1).

SMU enters play at 6-4 (3-3) on the season. The Mustangs have already achieved bowl eligibility with two more games left on the slate. It’s a testament to the fine job that head coach Chad Morris is doing down in Dallas with this Mustangs team. Though they aren’t contending in the AAC this year, maybe next season will be the year SMU football comes back to semi-national prominence?
Memphis enters play at 8-1 (5-1) on the season. The Tigers are the No. 21 team in the nation. Their only loss on the year was to the still undefeated UCF Knights in conference play. Memphis may very well be the second-best Group of 5 team in the country. The Tigers need to see UCF slip up for them to have a shot at making the New Year’s Six at regular season’s end.
