Isaiah Thomas was clearly disappointed to be traded by the Boston Celtics, and now there’s a video to show it.

Isaiah Thomas is nearing his debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers, with a target of early January for his return from a hip injury. He was, of course, part of the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving from the Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics in late-August. Thomas has also made it clear how disappointed he was to be traded, along with some pointed words for general manager Danny Ainge after all Thomas felt he had done for the Celtics’ franchise.

Thomas is doing a series for The Players’ Tribune called Book of Isaiah, and the middle of the latest installment (Chapter 5, entitled “Dealing”) shows Thomas getting a call — or actually returning a call — from Ainge that he had been traded. It’s raw, unfiltered and shows how a player being traded affects his family as well. It’s not a new concept, but it is pretty new to see it in a direct, behind-the-scenes way such as this.

Tip: fast forward to the 6:50 mark.

The complete trade was not made official for a week after Thomas got the call depicted in the video. The Cavaliers thoroughly checked out his hip, and had to have their concerns about it addressed.

Things seem to be working out just fine for both sides though, as Irving and the Celtics have the best record in the Eastern Conference (26-7) with the Cavaliers 2.5 games behind at 23-9 after a slow start.

And Cleveland will soon add the No. 3 scorer in the league last season (28.9 points per games), even if Thomas is not at full capacity right away. But as long as he’s good to go and at full strength come playoff time, LeBron James will be glad to have Thomas around.
