The NBA season has seen some surprises so far, with teams like the Knicks, the Pacers and the Pistons outperforming the preseason predictions of both Las Vegas and this podcast. On the flip side, the Thunder haven’t met expectations (although they are currently on a hot streak), and the Clippers and Grizzlies have struggled because of injuries.

So as the calendar prepares to turn to 2018, which of these teams could see their fortunes begin to change? Which positive starts might be unsustainable? Do any teams at the bottom of the standings have any hope for a rebound?

To help figure out the answers to these questions, Mo Dakhil (@MoDakhil_NBA) joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. Mo is a former video coordinator for the Spurs and the Clippers and is the host of The Jump Ball podcast. Among the specific topics covered:

  • Victor Oladipo is a leading candidate for Most Improved Player and has Indiana positioned to make the playoffs. What pitfalls must be avoided to keep things rolling?
  • New York’s schedule has been very lopsided with home games. As the road games pile up, will the Knicks still find themselves in the playoff race?
  • Despite soaring early season optimism, the 76ers are currently 15-18 and 10th in the Eastern Conference. Are they a prime candidate to bounce back or are there issues that will prevent them from the success they were anticipating?
  • The Hawks have the worst record in the league, but are there signs that they could start picking up more victories than expected?

In addition, Mo picks a Western Conference team poised to go on a run that has mostly flown under the radar.
