It seems the Los Angeles Clippers were really trying to deal Blake Griffin somewhere before the trade deadline. They even offered him up to the Thunder.

Blake Griffin was traded to the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, and it most definitely proved that loyalty is indeed a myth in the NBA. Most of the rumors coming out of Los Angeles about the trade deadline was that they would most likely deal DeAndre Jordan and/or Lou Williams, not the face of their franchise.

As it turns out the Clippers just about offered him up to everyone, even his hometown team the Oklahoma City Thunder. According to ESPN’s Royce Young the Clippers called the Thunder about a Blake Griffin for Paul George trade.

Griffin was linked to the Oklahoma City Thunder this past summer when he was a free agent, but nothing ever came to fruition. Griffin is from Oklahoma, and played his college ball at Oklahoma University so it would be a nice homecoming for him. Unfortunately this deal just wouldn’t work for the Thunder.

George is the Robin to Russell Westbrook’s Batman, and with the Thunder haven’t had a high class wing player since Kevin Durant left to join Golden State. Thunder GM Sam Presti is usually the one pulling off trades like these, and not the other way around.

Another reason why Presti wouldn’t sign off on a trade like this is because the Thunder in all likelihood plan to bring George back, or at least do everything in their power to convince him to come back.

In the end it mostly comes down to the question do you want Paul George or Blake Griffin? In the Thunder’s case the answer was Paul George. Props to the Clippers for having the guts to make this offer though. You know what they say, shooters shoot.
