Trade deadline day is off like a shot! Jameer Nelson is leaving the Detroit Pistons for the Chicago Bulls. It’s madness out here on the internet.

This is surely to be the first domino in the domino waterfall of trade deadline domino deals. Domino. Jameer Nelson, point guard recently of Denver, New Orleans, and the Chicago Bulls, has been traded to the Detroit Pistons for Willie Reed per Shams Charania.

Neither team really had time to develop a strong tie for the players they’re sending out. Jameer was acquired by the Bulls in the trade sending out fist-magnet Nikola Mirotic to New Orleans. He did not play a minute.

Willie Reed was acquired in the Blake Griffin Trade. He played about nine and a half minutes for the Pistons which resulted in more fouls than points. He also had a rebound against the Portland Trailblazers, so at least there’s that.

For the Pistons, this means one more player to plug in in Reggie Jackson’s absence. Ish Smith is good-ish, but Jameer Nelson can be a serviceable backup if you consider the service at Denny’s adequate. Everyone works hard; everyone does their best.

Nelson is very much not a long term option. He is thirty-five, nearly ten years removed from his one All-Star season in Orlando, and has since hovered around average to below-average as his minutes waned with age.

However, having someone to play backup point guard is better than having no-one. Jameer offers a different look that Dwight Buycks. Buycks is a scorer, and Nelson may be better to hang out and let the offense flow through Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond. If nothing else, it gives the Pistons a different six-foot point guard to run into the lane and dive through trees.

The Chicago Bulls acquire a younger body to help try and bail water out of the Titanic.
