March Madness continues with some St. Patrick’s Day action on Day 1 of the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Both No. 4 Gonzaga and No. 5 Ohio State made it out of the First Round unscathed, unlike many of the teams that saw huge wins and equally huge, bracket-busting upsets.

Gonzaga heads into the Second Round after beating No. 13 UNCG 68-64 on Thursday. With Virginia and Arizona out of the race, Gonzaga has a shot at a return to the Final Four if they can get past Ohio State. And Xavier. Gonzaga’s win against UNGC wasn’t a cake walk, with the Bulldogs goin 52% from the charity stripe and 21.70% in 3-pointers. The game was tied until Zach Norvell Jr hit a three with 23 seconds left in the game.

Ohio State was tied with South Dakota State at the half before pulling away late in the game for an 81-73 win. Ohio State shot 78.9% from the charity stripe and was 12-for-40 in 3-pointers. Forward Keita Bates-Diop led with 24 points and 12 rebounds while two players ended up with three steals apiece, bringing the team’s total steals to 10.

What this game boils down to is both teams’ abilities to stay focused and play the way they did in their conference tournaments. Neither team brought their a-game and in these uncertain NCAA Tournament times there is no room for missed free throws or 3-pointers.
