Jordan Poole hit a true buzzer-beater to send Michigan to the Sweet 16 after a grudge match against Houston.

Bracket-wise, this wasn’t a big deal. Michigan was an early favorite to go deep in the tournament, but Houston, too, was hot. It was expected to be an even match-up and it was exactly that. Two top 15 defenses threw down in an (over-officiated) grudge match. It was unlike the fast-paced, high-scoring games that characterized the weekend so far. But the ending. Man, that ending might have been the craziest yet — and that includes two Loyola clutch shots and more last-second shots across the first two rounds than you can count.

Houston’s Rob Gray, he of the man bun and literally-Steph-Curry-esque 70 points over two games, had himself a night with 39 points. Refs had, maybe, never been more whistle-happy. It seemed like the game would come down to free-throws and a few clutch Houston shots. Then, senior guard Mohammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman got the inbound, found freshman Jordan Poole, fan of short shorts and cats, with essentially no time left and chucked up a deep 3 — a shot none of the Wolverines were hitting with any consistency — and it hit and Michigan won and chaos reigned in March.

Here it is again.

It was the last game of the night and game that given the aforementioned sludging pace, you would have been forgiven for turning off. Especially given how Michigan had been shooting and the general nature of everything about that game. Bummer for you, because you missed the opportunity to scream at your TV in anger/excitement/happiness/heartbreak.

Michigan will play the winner of Texas A&M vs. UNC in the Sweet 16 and hope they can keep this magic going a little longer.
