DraftKings NBA Picks March 26: Stack the Detroit front

We only have five games in the NBA tonight, and they are all in the DraftKings tournament! What a concept! The Lakers and Denver are still within shouting distance of a playoff spot. Philadelphia, Minnesota, and Boston are currently in. Charlotte and Detroit are technically not eliminated, but they need help. The only tankers we really have to worry about tonight are three of the worst: The Knicks, Grizzlies, and Suns.

The money line was down a ways to 258.25. My lineups missed because of the failed value of Monroe, Patty Mills, and Jordan Bell. The poor numbers from Kyle Lowry didn’t help either.

The winning lineup was only at 329 points. He build around Rozier and Beard and survived a poor night from Melo thanks to value from Gerald Green, Mo Harkless and Quinn Cook.

Point Guards:

Best Bets:

Ben Simmons ($8,800): Simmons was awful against Denver earlier this year, only notching 22 DraftKings points in 32 minutes. However, Simmons is cooking with gas lately. He has at least 5x value in eight of the last 11 games. Perhaps more impressive is Simmons’ four triple doubles in the last seven games. He is a threat to do it all against Denver tonight.

Lonzo Ball ($7,800): Why not Kemba? Well, Kemba has only averaged 29 minutes in three games against the Knicks. His DraftKings output is even lower than that. Other Hornets have done more damage, so I will go to Ball. The Lakers still have something to play for, and Ball has at least 35 DraftKings points in seven of the last nine games.

Honorable Mention:

Terry Rozier ($7,600): Rozier dazzled against the Kings last night, and gets an even weaker opponent in the Suns tonight. Boston is so beat up that even poor teams are hanging with them. That is good news for those of us that are drooling over this matchup. Rozier should still play plenty of minutes tonight.

Jamal Murray ($7,300): Murray went nuts on the Sixers in the first meeting, racking up 48.5 DraftKIngs points. However, having to deal with Ben Simmons the entire game could be a problem. The volume of shots that Murray gets keeps him a strong play in GPP formats, but he won’t always hit value.

Dark Horses:

Andrew Harrison ($5,200): Harrison racked up 40 DraftKings points starting for Tyreke Evans on Saturday. He is going to be a very popular value pick tonight, but I think fading this kind of potential value is too big of a risk. Get your separation elsewhere.

Ish Smith ($5,000): The Lakers are so bad defending the point that it might be a good idea to use both Smith and Reggie Jackson. Jackson is cutting deeper into Smith’s minutes, but Smith is still the more reliable option right now. However, Jackson might have more upside now.

My pick: Simmons(PG), Smith(G), Harrison(SG); Rozier(PG), Harrison(G)

LOS ANGELES, CA – FEBRUARY 17: Devin Booker #1 of the Phoenix Suns competes in the 2018 JBL Three-Point Contest at Staples Center on February 17, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images) /

Shooting Guards:

Best Bets:

Devin Booker ($7,500): The Suns have been quiet about the status of Booker, but he was originally expected to return tonight. Assuming he does, Booker could actually be a strong play against Boston. Booker lit up the Celtics for 50.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting. With Boston still down a few guards, there is a chance Booker does it again. If he plays, of course.

Will Barton ($7,100): Barton started against Philly in the first meeting and racked up 38.75 DraftKings points. However, Barton could have a tougher go of it this time around. Denver is tougher defensively against the off guard than small forward, which is where Barton started the first game.

Honorable Mention:

Tim Hardaway Jr. ($7,000): Hardaway continues to see plenty of minutes for the Knicks. There is some kind of risk here since the Knicks have no reason to keep riding Hardaway, but he is the only source of offense that they have on the perimeter right now. That has to count for something!

Jeremy Lamb ($6,100): Wiggins is still a risk, so I will move towards Lamb. It looks as though Nicolas Batum is out again, especially since Charlotte is out of contention. That means another start for Lamb against a Knicks defense that is not very good. Sign me up!

Dark Horses:

Jaylen Brown ($5,100): Brown looked solid in his return against the Kings last night, putting up 25.5 DraftKings points in 25 minutes. Considering Boston did a good job of controlling Brown’s workload, there is a good chance that he not only plays tonight, but the Brown sees the same workload. In 25 minutes against the Suns, he could easily top 30 DraftKings points. There is good potential here.

Jamal Crawford ($3,900): Crawford has cooled off from the field, but the minutes are still there for the veteran with Jimmy Butler out. There is risk involved since Crawford is only a shooter. He wont produce anywhere else. If Crawford doesn’t straighten his shooting out, he wont make value. Even against Memphis.

My pick: Brown(F); Lamb(SG), Crawford(UTIL)

DraftKings
LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 11: Kyle Kuzma #0 of the Los Angeles Lakers saves a ball from going out of bounds during a 93-81 win over the San Antonio Spurs at Staples Center on January 11, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images) /

Small Forwards:

Best Bets:

Kyle Kuzma ($6,900): Kuzma put up 30 DraftKings points in just 20 minutes in the first meeting with the Pistons. The Lakers could use Ingram, but they are still playing well without him. That means I don’t think the Lakers are going to rush. I think Kuzma still has at least one more game of going away above value.

Jayson Tatum ($6,800): The rookie is still a risk, but one worth taking with Marcus Morris likely out again. Morris sat out last night with a mild ankle sprain. Considering that Boston is the rock solid two seed right now, I think they rest Morris again which could mean a big night for Tatum.

Honorable Mention:

Josh Jackson ($6,700): Jackson should continue to start for the injured T.J. Warren, even with Booker back. Boston presents a tough matchup, but Jackson has six straight games with 30 or more DraftKings points. I still don’t see much upside against Boston though.

Robert Covington ($5,800): Covington picked up 37.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting with Denver. Covington is at least more reliable than he was in Feburary, but he is still prone to the occasional off game. That isn’t going to happen against Denver. This should be a high scoring affair.

Dark Horses:

Michael Beasley ($5,700): Beasley’s minutes continue to fluctuate, but the Knicks should need his size against Charlotte. Beasley put up 29.75 DraftKings points last night, so there is decent potential here. However, with the Knicks rolling with several forwards to make up for the loss of Kristaps Porzingis, As long as that continues, Beasley wont put up the big games like we saw earlier this year.

Wilson Chandler ($5,400): The minutes are there for Chandler, which means it’s very hard for him to not hit 5x value at this price. Chandler remains a very strong mid-range value pick. That is especially important on a small slate like this one.

My pick: Covington(SF); Kuzma(SF), Covington(F)

DETROIT, MI – FEBRUARY 12: Blake Griffin #23 of the Detroit Pistons tries to make a move around Nikola Mirotic #3 of the New Orleans Pelicans during the first half at Little Caesars Arena on February 12, 2018 in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images) /

Power Forwards:

Best Bets:

Blake Griffin ($9,200): Griffin is very familiar with the Lakers since he shared a city with them up until six weeks ago. Blake carried a healthy 48.3 DraftKings points per game average in three tries against the Lakers. There is a lot of upside here, even though the Bulls handcuffed Griffin on Saturday.

Julius Randle ($7,900): Many teams have tried to stop Randle in March. Very few have succeeded. Randle has not been under 30 DraftKings points in a month now. Griffin poses a tougher mathcup for Randle, but I’m not even sure Blake can get a handle on Randle here.

Honorable Mention:

Al Horford ($6,300): The undersized Suns suit the skill set of Horford. That is why Horford put up 40.75 DraftKings points on them the first time around. However, Phoenix was still (allegedly) trying at that point of the season. They aren’t now, and that will likely result in a blowout. That will lead to Boston starters playing 30 minutes or less, so there is some risk attached here.

Dario Saric ($5,900): Saric lit up Denver in the first meeting for 42.75 DraftKings points. Don’t expect a repeat of that performance. Saric is losing minutes lately, but that mostly has to do with the Sixers winning by double digits. I think the game with Denver stays pretty close, so Saric should be a great value for the price.

Dark Horses:

Taj Gibson ($5,400): Memphis is just awful right now. The Grizzlies have struggled against power forwards even before they were tanking. This is evident by Gibson’s 27.75 DraftKings points in his first game against Memphis this year. There is solid potential here tonight.

Frank Kaminsky ($4,400): Kaminsky continues to put up solid numbers off of the Charlotte bench. There is a good chance that this game gets out of hand, which should result in Kaminsky seeing closer to 30 than 20 minutes in this one. That makes Frank the Tank a nice value sneak tonight.

My pick: Horford(PF), Kaminsky(UTIL); Kaminsky(PF)

DraftKings
BOSTON, MA – JANUARY 18: Joel Embiid #21 of the Philadelphia 76ers looks on during the second half of the game against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on January 18, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Tim Bradbury/Getty Images) /

Center:

Best Bets:

Andre Drummond ($9,700): Drummond abused the Bulls on Saturday, and has a chance to do the same against the Lakers. At any rate, I have a hard time seeing the Lakers hold Drummond under 50. I view Drummond as one of the better plays of the night, especially since this game should stay close.

Joel Embiid ($9,400): Embiid missed the first game against Denver, but his brute strength should help him agianst Jokic. There is solid potential for Embiid tonight. Just keep in mind that the Sixers have not played Embiid more than 24 minutes in the last three games. They are effectively limited his minutes, so if this game gets out of hand, Embiid will sit.

Honorable Mention:

Dwight Howard ($8,700): As expected, Howard turned in another strong performance against Dallas. New York isn’t any better than Dallas up front, so we could see another 50 out of Howard here. The veteran is playing very well right now. Expect the Hornets to ride this out, which means we should too. The Hornets have almost no chance at the playoffs, but as long as there is still a chance, Howard should see plenty of minutes.

Nikola Jokic ($8,600): Jokic has put up some huge numbers at times this month. Embiid is a physical force of nature, but teams have had modest success going right at him. At long as Jokic isn’t scared of going at Embiid, I expect to see another well rounded line out of Jokic. That at least makes him worth a look here.

Dark Horses:

Enes Kanter ($6,100): Kanter keeps putting up decent numbers. The Knicks are not pushing him, nor will they over the duration of the season. That limits the value on Kanter, and I don’t really like him against Howard. Still, they call this a dark horse for a reason.

Greg Monroe ($5,500): Phoenix was supposed to be the team that rescued Monroe from Jason Kidd purgatory in Milwuakee. Instead, the Suns effectively played Monroe less than Milwaukee did. So, even though Monroe is not a huge cog in the Boston machine, I see a compelling revenge narrative here.

My pick: Embiid(C), Drummond(C)
