Brandon McCarthy’s latest injury doesn’t appear to be serious, but his wife did not hesitate to roast him about it.

The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 5-3 in 12 innings on Wednesday afternoon. Starter Brandon McCarthy had a solid outing, allowing one run on four hits over five innings, but as he reached back for a throw while covering first base in that fifth inning he injured his left shoulder.

McCarthy has dealt with shoulder and elbow issues multiple times in his career, and he pitched just 152.2 innings over 33 appearances (29 starts) over the last three full seasons. So it’s good that Wednesday’s incident involved his non-throwing shoulder, all things considered.

After being removed from the game with what was deemed a subluxation (dislocation) of his shoulder, it was reported post game McCarthy is expected to make his next start against the Philadelphia Phillies next Tuesday.

Here’s a look at the play McCarthy was injured on.

The most routine movements, if done just a little bit off, can create an injury for even the proverbial best athletes in the world.

McCarthy is one of the better baseball players to follow (or just check in on once in a while) on Twitter. I particularly like the line in his bio that says “my wife says to say that I’m married.” So she is clearly well-versed in his personality and sense of humor, and also seems to not take herself so seriously via that social media avenue. So she did not hesitate to take an opportunity to roast her husband after his injury on Wednesday.

Complaints from a wife about her husband not doing dishes or enough chores in general around the house are nothing new. Not all husbands are big league baseball players who travel nearly constantly for half the year, but Amanda McCarthy just put her husband on notice when the offseason comes back around.
