Bryce Harper has one very specific matchup in mind for the Stanley Cup Finals and only one team is in the city he plays baseball.

One of the cooler things about sports is seeing athletes root for other teams outside of the sport they play It’s relatable and helps the fans feel like their favorite player is just like them. Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is thoroughly enjoying the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs in part because he’s got two horses in the race. Harper was born in Las Vegas so it’s pretty easy to understand why he’s fully on board the Vegas Golden Knights bandwagon. He even put the Golden Knights logo on his bats towards the start of the playoffs.

Harper isn’t quite as enthusiastic as some of his teammates in the support of the Washington Capitals but that doesn’t mean he’s not rooting for them to get through the Eastern Conference and make the Stanley Cup Finals. Harper’s perfect matchup is the Capitals facing off against his hometown team.

This would indeed be a fun matchup and it would be interesting to see where Harper’s loyalties lie if these two teams do meet for the Cup. The smart bet would be Harper is going to side with the Knights, which should make for some good-natured ribbing within the Nationals clubhouse.

Perhaps the best part of the whole run so far was Harper posting a picture on his Instagram page that is straight out of a regular Joe fan’s playbook. Harper was hanging out at home in a Golden Knights hoodie with a hockey helmet on his head and a resplendent playoff beard, ready for action. We all know a fan that would dress in that exact way for their squad. In the immortal words of David Puddy from Seinfeld, “You gotta support the team!”

Bryce Harper is one of. the more famous fans that the Golden Knights have, but he’s acting like the rest of us hockey fans right now. Wearing team apparel, having a beard and dreaming of the proper Stanley Cup Finals matchup is what every hockey fan is doing right now. It’s cool to see Harper is no different.
