Kentucky Oaks 2018: Complete finishing order
Who won the Lilies for the Fillies? Who took home a share of $1 million purse? Here’s your final finishing order from the 2018 Kentucky Oaks.
Derby weekend kicks off with the Kentucky Oaks, the marquee race of Friday’s festivities at Churchill Downs. The 1 1/8 mile race in which exclusively fillies race has a post time of 6:12 p.m. ET, like the Derby, is over in more or less two minutes. The winner of the race is awarded a $600,000 share of the $1 million purse, as well as a silver trophy and a garland of lilies.
Before the race, Monomoy Girl was the clear favorite, but horse racing fans expected an exciting race given how evenly matched the field was — and the lack of experience on muddy or sloppy tracks with which many of the contenders entered the race. With two-time Oaks winning “Big Money” Mike Smith as jockey, Midnight Bisou couldn’t be ruled out either. But the rain held out and Monomoy Girl edged Wonder Gadot in a closely competed Oaks race.
In fact, the race was so close and contentious that Wonder Gadot’s jockey, John Velazquez, even submitted an objection, though the contact was too thin and the victory stood.
Here is the official finishing order after the race.
- Monomoy Girl (Florent Geroux)
- Wonder Gadot (John Velazquez)
- Midnight Bisou (Mike Smith)
- Eskimo Kisses (Corey Lanerie)
- Chocolate Martini (Javier Castellano)
- Sassy Sienna (Gary Stevens)
- Coach Rocks (Luis Saez)
- Kelly’s Humor (Irad Ortiz, Jr.)
- Heavenhasmynikki (Calvin Borel)
- Classy Act (Brian Hernandez, Jr.)
- My Miss Lilly (Joe Bravo)
- Patrona Margarita (Ricardo Santana, Jr.)
- Rayya (Drayden Van Dyke)
- Take Charge Paula (Jose Ortiz)
The races aren’t over at Churchill Downs. Two more races will be run tonight as part of the Oaks, with post times of 6:48 p.m. ET and 7:23 p.m. ET. And, of course, there’s the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, the main event of which has a post time currently list as 6:46 p.m ET.
