The Tampa Bay Lightning host the Washington Capitals in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.

On Friday, the Washington Capitals defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning by a final score of 4-2 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final. Impressive performances from the likes of Alexander Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Lars Eller and Jay Beagle was the central avenue through which the Capitals not only sent a commanding message to fans at Amalie Arena, but also walked away with a 1-0 series lead.

That Washington snatched victory from the jaws of defeat without star center Nicklas Backstrom further soured the Bolts’ loss. It’s only reasonable, therefore, to expect Tampa to come out flying in Game 2. Recording more shots will be absolutely pivotal — as such, expect Jon Cooper’s depth-ridden roster to pressure Washington’s attempts to bury the Bolts’ attack in both the neutral and offensive zones. Friday night underscored the Capitals’ capacity to shut down extensive speed, so look for J.T. Miller, Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, Ondrej Palat and Brayden Point to apply some much needed pressure.

For Washington, Game 2 is an opportunity to head into a home stretch with a series lead for the books. The Capitals have already exposed some of Tampa’s costly missteps and have managed to deny the Bolts the space that they devastate opponents with. As a result, a question of tactics remains: can they sustain this pressure over the course of the series? Look for Barry Trotz’s men to continue to marry offensive prowess with defensive accountability. If Ovechkin sustains his “lights-out” presence, while players like Beagle and Eller increasingly step up in light of Backstrom’s injury, a deadly run might just be inevitable.
