Danica Patrick’s career ended with a wreck as the former NASCAR star wrecked out of Sunday’s 2018 Indianapolis 500. Watch the video of Danica’s crash.

Danica Patrick’s last race ended on a down note, when she wrecked out of the 2018 Indianapolis 500 just past the quarter point of the historic race.

Patrick’s No. 13 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet spun on its own during Lap 68 of 200 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, slamming into an infield wall. The single-car crash meant that Patrick would finish 30th out of 33 cars—her worst-ever Indianapolis 500 finish.

That was a disappointing conclusion for Danica Patrick, who had joined Carpenter’s team in an Indy-only effort to conclude her motorsports career in IndyCar. The 2018 Indy 500 was her first IndyCar race in seven years, and she originally looked promising. Patrick qualified in the Fast Nine and started seventh.

But that momentum didn’t carry through into the race as she was the victim of the second single-car accident within just a handful of laps. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ed Jones also spun into the wall ten laps before Danica Patrick. His accident was only two laps after defending Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato and another Indy-only driver, James Davison, were involved in a two-car incident.

For Danica Patrick, her 2018 Indianapolis 500 wreck will be a sour note on which to conclude her racing days. She started and finished fourth in her first Indy 500 back in 2004—her career best start, and her second best finish. (She finished third in 2009.) But before Sunday, she had never come home lower than 22nd, which she did exactly a decade earlier in 2008.

The 30th place result is also the lowest of her entire IndyCar Series career. She finished 23rd at Sao Paulo in 2011, before making the move to NASCAR after the 2011 IndyCar season.

Per IndyCar, Patrick has been checked, released and cleared from the infield hospital.
