10 things we saw and loved in the Capitals Nationals group photo

After winning the Stanley Cup, the Washington Capitals visited the Washington Nationals. Here’s what stood out from their amazing group photo.

DC sports teams have each other’s backs. The Washington Capitals happily support the Washington Wizards, Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals. And each team happily supports the Caps as well.

Naturally, the Stanley Cup champions had to go visit their diamond brethren and return to Nationals Park for the first time as a group since the 2015 Winter Classic. An unforgettable group photo in the locker room sums up how much the two teams support each other.

There are so many great things going on in this photo. Let’s take a look at them!

1. Where’s Bryce?

Nats outfielder Bryce Harper is the exception to the “DC sports teams support each other” rule. But let’s be fair to him. Harper likes the Caps, he just likes his hometown Vegas Golden Knights more. The outfielder was seen being upset after seeing his team lose in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final. Did Harper skip out on the photo? Nope, he just hid way in the back.

2. There’s the Stanley Cup!

Caps captain Alex Ovechkin has been ecstatic since he’s won the Stanley Cup. And who can blame him? This is probably the first documented photo since the Caps left T-Mobile Arena of Ovechkin not carrying the cup around. It’s right next to Andre Burakovsky.

3. Ovechkin and Zimmerman’s bromance

Check out Ovechkin and Nationals infielder Ryan Zimmerman snuggling in the front of the photo. That’s true love.

4. Ovechkin’s so hungover

Anyone who knows Ovechkin knows he was going to celebrate so hard after winning the Stanley Cup. And boy, is he hungover. Ovechkin looks like he could take a nap in his position.

5. Who else didn’t properly hydrate before celebrating?

Caps defenseman Dmitry Orlov (directly behind Ovechkin) has his eyes closed and a blissfully happy look on his face. Those are the signs of a true hangover. Backstrom is hungover, but this picture doesn’t confirm that. This one, however, does.

6. Why are Backstrom and Smith-Pelly staring at each other?

There are a few people in this photo who weren’t looking at the camera. The oddest duo who aren’t looking at the camera? Backstrom and Devante Smith-Pelly. They’re looking at each other in a really weird way.

7. Trotz and Martinez bromance might be over

Throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Nationals manager Dave Martinez has supported the Capitals. But in this photo, Barry Trotz isn’t posing with the Nats manager. Is the old man bromance over?

8. Niskanen and Gonzalez could be long lost brothers

Off to the right, you can see Caps defenseman Matt Niskanen and Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez kneeling next to each other. They have the same look on their face and they’re both staring at the same object off in the distance.

9. The One Bad Thing About This Picture

There’s so many lovely things about this group photo. But why aren’t Max Scherzer and Zimmerman in full hockey gear? They showed up to Game 4 in full hockey gear to support the Caps. It would have made this photo flawless had they busted out their classic outfits one last time.

10. Holtby cropped out

Nothing stinks more than trying to take a group photo and realizing you just missed getting into the frame. Caps goaltender Braden Holtby only has about 80 percent of his beard-coated face in the picture. That’s why you’ve got to use the panorama feature on your cell phone.
