Even in 2018, the best part of the NBA Draft still might be the fashion, and Trae Young is about to be Thunderstruck with his suit shorts.

Trae Young is potentially the most polarizing prospect in the 2018 NBA Draft. During his lone season with the Oklahoma Sooners, the point guard set the college basketball world ablaze with his early-season statistics. But once Big 12 play started, he seemed to teeter off in that department. And the success of the so-called one-man show in Norman dissipated.

Thus, it’s hard to know what to make of Young as a prospect. He’s a minus defender at this point, and might not have the build to be even league-average in that department as he develops. However, his offensive skills are so pronounced that he has enormous potential, but also enormous downside. Young is as boom-or-bust as they come.

Rather than steering away from his polarizing nature though, Young made sure that eyes were drawn to him on the night of the NBA Draft. He did so, of course, with his fashion choices.

How so? Young decided to tune in to his inner AC/DC (or LeBron James circa the 2018 Finals for those of you not well-versed in rock music) by rocking the suit shorts:

You at least have to give Young a bit of credit when it comes to this look — at least he was wise enough to go sockless whilst going with the shorts.

Frankly, this is somewhat tame as it pertains to NBA Draft fashion. We’ve seen some truly horrible suits throughout the years, and there were plenty in even the 2018 class. In the grand scheme, rocking shorts is a bold choice, but not an entirely bad look.

Whatever nabs Young though won’t ultimately care about what he wore to the Barclays Center on Thursday night. They’ll care if he was worth the likely lottery selection and if he can boom rather than bust once he trades the suit shorts for basketball shorts once again.
