While calling a game for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, minor league broadcaster Roger Hoover described a foul ball that wrecked his computer.

A foul ball during a baseball game can be one of the more dangerous things about attending a sporting event. Unfortunately, Roger Hoover, a minor league broadcaster who calls the games for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp learned this the hard way.

Imagine trying to call a game at the professional level. It’s not an easy thing to do, many try but even fewer succeed and reach even the minor league level. Now on top of that add in a screaming line drive coming for your head.

That’s exactly what Roger Hoover dealt with while he was live on the microphone. Luckily, the ball didn’t hit him but it did take a parting gift with it.

Listen to Hoover keep calm and call a foul ball that utterly destroys his laptop.

The crashing sound as it obviously makes contact with the laptop is a sound effect out of a children’s show. It’s laughable, in a what could’ve been a serious situation of course. Hoover keeps his cool and describes what took place with a laugh and pretty good sense of humor about the situation.

Like a true professional he stuck it out through the call and finished the game with a busted up computer. Arguably the most impressive part of the entire story is what he did in order to publish the game notes.

Get a load of this champ, who plugged his computer into a TV in order to continue working. That is the broadcasting equivalent of the Jordan Flu Game and an impressive showing of determination by Roger.

Hopefully, someone over at Apple does the right thing and sends him over a brand new laptop. A tough break for Hoover has turned into a national story, which might just be the big break he was looking for.
