Halfway through the 2018 college football season for many teams, the Heisman Trophy hunt is beginning to take shape, and some separation of the candidates is evident.

For the first six weeks of the season, the top contenders for the 2018 Heisman Trophy have been bunched together, with little in the way of Heisman moments or incredible games to separate them.

With Week 7 approaching, suddenly we are seeing some separation, as Heisman hopefuls come up against more quality teams and find themselves unable to perform as they have during the first half of the season.

It’s becoming more and more difficult for wide receivers and running backs to find their way to the head of the list, and nearly impossible for defenders. With half the season done, it’s looking more and more like a quarterback will once again take home the Heisman Trophy.

The Week 7 Top 10 has been completely shaken up with some big upsets and less-than-stellar performances by a few of the Heisman candidates. Dropping off my list this week is Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley, who had the week off after the heartbreaking loss to Ohio State two weeks ago.

Coming in at 10-6:

10: Justin Herbert – Quarterback, Oregon
9: Laviska Shenault Jr.– Wide Reciever, Colorado
8: Benny Snell Jr. – Running Back, Kentucky
7: McKenzie Milton – Quarterback, UCF
6: Travis Etienne – Running Back, Clemson

Moving into the number five spot in place of Benny Snell Jr. is a running back many fans may not have heard about yet, but if he keeps breaking off huge chunk runs as he has all season, they soon will.
