The LSU Tigers are reportedly interested in keeping Ed Orgeron around in Baton Rouge for quite some time.

It looks like LSU and Ed Orgeron are working to stay together for the foreseeable future. Fresh off leading the Tigers to a win in the Fiesta Bowl, LSU is reportedly closing in on a contract extension with Coach O.

According to reports, the LSU Tigers want their head coach to be in Baton Rouge for the foreseeable future.

Per the Associated Press:

"“A person familiar with the situation says LSU and coach Ed Orgeron have begun work on the framework of a contract extension with the hope of putting it before the university system’s board of supervisors in March.”"

It shouldn’t be surprising that the two parties would like to see Ed Orgeron stay in place as LSU’s head coach for a while. Even though Orgeron hasn’t been the most successful coach to ever lead the Tigers, LSU won 10 games during the 2018 season and was two points in a wild overtime game with Texas A&M away from securing 11 victories.

He’s been in Baton Rouge for the past three seasons and has been the full-time head coach of the LSU Tigers for two years now. In 2017 (which was Orgeron’s first full season as their head coach) the Tigers went 9-4. After Les Miles was canned in 2016, Orgeron stepped in and guided LSU to a 6-2 record in its final eight games of the season.

LSU, more or less, has steadily improved under Ed Orgeron’s guidance and there’s an argument to be made that the Tigers’ football program is actually better now than when he took over.

At the moment, the Tigers have the No. 8 recruiting class in the country and had a really good early signing period. That’s up considerably from being ranked No. 15 recruiting wise a year ago.

And on top of all of that talent that the Tigers are bringing on into to Baton Rouge, Ed Orgeron’s team is also returning a ton of key production and experience from a season ago. According to SB Nation’s Bill Connelly, the Tigers could see a ton of improvement heading into next season because of that.
