What happened on the March 27 edition of NXT UK? Let’s break it down.

With WrestleMania weekend and Takeover: New York on the horizon, the black-and-gold-and-British brand took care of some very important clerical work, while also continuing to showcase its rising talent. Here’s what went down on the latest episode of NXT UK.

1. Paperwork

Let’s get to it right off the bat, the reason you all decided to read this post: Pete Dunne and WALTER, signing paper. Ah, the contract signing, a conceit as old as time for when you’ve confirmed a match, but there’s still some time before the match can happen so you need to pad things out a bit.

Now, you’ve probably signed some papers in your day, and obviously it can be a very tedious task. That’s why WWE usually likes to throw in a hefty dose of shenanigans with their contract signings. Someone getting put through a table, someone being introduced last minute to replace Kofi Kingston, etc. It adds a little spice to the Shepherd’s pie, as it were.

Compared to other WWE contract signings, this one is rather bland in terms of “action.” But, as was touched on in this week’s preview, that makes perfect sense within this duo’s established characters. Both Dunne and WALTER are the types that would rather let their match speak for itself, instead of resorting to certain extracurricular activities.

Dunne — wearing a blue wool coat and light brown scarf — tells WALTER that it’s not just all the fans out there that want this match. He wants this match too, to prove that he is the best against the best, and continue his near-700 day United Kingdom Championship reign indefinitely. WALTER — donning the classic “trench coat over a polo shirt” look — specifically mentions that he doesn’t need to put Dunne through a table to prove his point, because his point is simply that after Takeover, Dunne’s title will belong to him. “In New York City, the reign of The Bruiserweight will end.”

Basic, yet effective. This is your 37th reminder that this match is going to own.
