Let’s breakdown everything worth breaking down from the April 3 edition of WWE NXT UK.
Only a few days out from the biggest match in the brand’s history, NXT UK put forth an episode that, surprisingly didn’t feature either Pete Dunne or WALTER in the flesh. It makes sense. Like our preview for this week mentioned, NXT UK hit all the story beats they possibly could to build towards this match, culminating in last week’s contract signing. Once you sign stuff, there’s not much left to do but have the match. Luckily, the NXT UK roster is made up of talented people independent of the two gents who will be duking it out at Barclays Center. Here’s what went down on the April 3 edition of NXT UK.
1. Joe Coffey and Trent Seven smack each other around
While taking a selfie video of himself to declare the path ahead for his wrestling faction — as you do — Gallus’ Joe Coffey set his sights on Trent Seven. He referred to Seven as “dead weight,” something Seven naturally did not like, and because the two are wrestlers, a match was made to settle things. It’s kind of wild that wrestling feuds can now be built off the backs of one wrestler being angry at another wrestler for posting online, but hey, whatever works. The match is very good. Just two burly bodies smacking up against each other.
Seven rides high off the energy of the crowd to start, harnessing the chants and love of the so-called “Trent Seven Army” to gain the advantage. It all shifts in a hurry however, when Coffey starts working over Seven’s back, using the ring post like a crude torture device. The back becomes the main target of Coffey’s irrepressible rage, and it’s what saves him in the end.

From there on out, no matter how much offense Seven is able to get in, he can never capitalize. All of Coffey’s handiwork makes it impossible. His back gets kneed, caught in a bear hug, elbow dropped, a real melange of abuse from Joe Coffey. Seven locks Coffey in a figure four, and it’s honestly hard to tell who is writhing in pain more. Later, he backdrops Coffey off the apron, but collapses to the floor shortly thereafter and only narrowly avoids being counted out. After finally walloping Coffey with the Seven Star Lariat, he can barely make a cover, allowing Coffey to kick out at two.
Still, the crowd is going wild for Seven. Rising to his feet after the near-fall, he can feel their passion surging through him and lifts Coffey onto his shoulders, only to immediately collapse. Too much weight, too much stress for Seven’s back to hold up. This is all the opening Coffey needs, his ruthlessness paying off at last. Pulling him to the center of the ring twice, Coffey forces Seven to tap out to a Boston Crab, sucking every last bit of energy right out of the Coventry Skydome. A statement online backed up by a statement win for Coffey.
