2. Controversy mars the end of the Auburn-Virginia game

The first game of the night in Minneapolis on Saturday was a bit of a bore early. Virginia raced out to a steady lead on Auburn, keyed by the three-point shooting of Ty Jerome.

Jerome dominated the offense, scoring 21 points for Virginia before picking up his fourth foul with the Cavaliers holding a ten point lead. Auburn then went on a 14-0 run, grabbing a four-point lead entering the final minute, but what happened next will go down in infamy.

Kyle Guy started the craziness by nailing a corner three to cut the Auburn lead to 61-60. Jared Harper ended up on the foul line for Auburn but only hit one of two from the charity stripe, leaving the Cavaliers a chance to win it.

After the refs missed a double-dribble, Virginia held the ball with 1.5 seconds to go, and they got it to Guy for a three-point attempt. Guy missed but was fouled by Auburn, heading to the line to nail all three free throws and send the Cavaliers to the title game.

The ending was marred by controversy after CBS rules expert Gene Steratore revealed the missed double-dribble after the game, sending Twitter into a frenzy. The foul call on Auburn was correct but a tough pill to swallow, leaving Tigers’ fans feeling like they got robbed.
