AEW Fyter Fest preview: Young Bucks and Kenny Omega vs. Lucha Bros and Laredo Kid

A highly-anticipated match that has had a veil of mystery around it finally has had all its competitors revealed and it’s not what everyone was expecting.

The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega face the Lucha Bros and Laredo Kid on June 29 at AEW Fyter Fest. This seemingly straightforward matchup has gone through a few different forms since it was originally announced.

The Dragon Gate Open the Dream Gate Champion, PAC, was originally supposed to be The Lucha Bros’ partner for this bout but due to an unconfirmed issue, PAC has seemingly stopped taking bookings from AEW for the time being.

So the speculation began on who would be PAC’s replacement in this contest. Many names were thrown out there from the legitimately feasible to the downright impossible. But on the June 17 edition of Being The Elite, the third man facing off against The Elite was revealed.

And that man is Laredo Kid.

Now this is by no means a bad addition, but quite a few fans were disappointed as they expected a bigger name to be announced. But Kid is actually on quite the hot run right now.

Kid first caught eyes for American audiences when he appeared for EVOLVE and later IMPACT Wrestling, and he has gained a lot larger following after his appearances for PWG this year.

Kid has nothing to lose and everything to gain in this marquee match and those who have seen his work know he’s going to shock the world on June 29.

On the other side, this will be the first time that Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks will have teamed in AEW. Expect these old comrades to pull out some new maneuvers while showing off their old faithful combos.

There isn’t much of a reason, in storyline, for Omega to be in this match as this feud really revolves around The Lucha Bros and The Young Bucks, but maybe we will get more concrete storytelling as the match grows closer.

This six-man tag match is likely to steal the show and send the fans home happy, given that it features some of AEW’s most popular stars. Laredo Kid should especially benefit from being part of such a high-profile match and perhaps gain some new fans along the way.
