Here’s the recap of all the high-flying action you may have missed from this week’s episode of 205 Live. Watch the cruiserweights every Friday night at 10 PM.

Happy New Year! There’s always much uncertainty surrounding 205 Live, so it’s nice to see the purple brand still alive in the new year. This was the first live episode since way back on Dec. 13.

Ariya Daivari vs. Danny Burch

Before the show, Daivari stated that as an OG member of 205 Live, he’s going to protect it from all the newcomers. He also lets Angel Garza know that he’s coming for his NXT Cruiserweight Title.

Burch made his singles debut on the purple brand back in December. He’s one of the newcomers that Daivari was talking about.

Daivari and Burch started off with lock-ups. Burch kept Daivari grounded as much as he could. Daivari moved to the rope to try to keep Burch off of him, but it backfired. “The Guv’nah” had an answer for everything that Daivari did. He also targeted the nose of “Daivari Dinero”.

Daivari is on the outside with Burch when he begins jawing with the fans. Daivari turned the match around and controlled the offense for a good portion of the middle of the match. The crowd booed Daivari, so he got on the top rope and mimicked Memphis’s own Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Burch was able to get uppercuts and back elbows on Daivari to weaken his opponent. He nearly pinned him after a missile dropkick. Burch followed up with a headbutt, but it wasn’t enough to put him away. The duo traded their best moves, but the other found ways to counter.

Daivari mimicked Lawler again, but Burch made him pay. Just as Burch was pinning Daivari, the ref was distracted by someone on the outside in a pink luchador mask. Once the ref got back to the in-ring action, Daivari was able to use the distraction to get the win.

After the match was over, the masked man was revealed to be fellow 205 Live OG, The Brian Kendrick. Kendrick said he was there to remind fans of who he was and that he founded the Cruiserweights and he’s the best thing to happen to the Cruiserweights. Back in September, Kendrick complained about the disrespect he suffered in the locker room. He hit his finisher, Sliced Bread No. 2 on Burch.

The Singh Bros. vs. Anthony Wayne and Corey Storm

Sumil and his wife had a baby on Dec. 13, the same day as the last 205 Live of the year. At Madison Square Garden, Sumir won the 24/7 Championship. The brothers wrestled on every WWE brand except NXT UK last year.

They faced local talent, Corey Storm and Anthony Wayne. Samir started off first and kept Wayne isolated until he tagged Sumil in. Samir got back in the match and Storm was tagged in. Storm was able to escape and tag his partner back in. Wayne got some offense in before The Singh Brother regained control.

They hit the Bollywood Blast with Sumil getting the pin.

Tony Nese vs. Angel Garza

Angel Garza put his NXT Cruiserweight title on the line against 205 Live OG Tony Nese.  Every time Nese tried to start the match, Garza would slide out of the ring. Garza mocked “The Premier Athlete” by counting his abs. Nese and Garza compare poses and bodies. Nese took advantage, but Garza quickly took advantage himself. The pair played a game of leapfrog and quickly moved around the ring. Garza paced the match to fit his needs.

Garza got Nese upside down in the corner and nailed him with a PK. Garza followed up by driving Nese to the canvas from the top rope. Nese seemed disoriented and Garza took him to the opposite corner to weaken him even more. He went for a splash when Nese pushed him off the top rope. Nese took advantage and kept Garza grounded.

The pair traded open hand strikes on the chest. Garza began picking up speed and ripped his pants off and tossed them at Nese to distract him. Garza nearly pinned Nese afterward. Nese nailed a huricanrana, but it wasn’t enough.

Garza pushed Nese outside the ring and followed with a moonsault. Nese countered Garza’s Wing Clipper. The pair traded reversals before Nese hit a German Suplex. He followed up with a Fosbury Flop on the outside.

Once they got back in the ring, Garza nailed the Wing Clipper for the victory.
