WWE Chairman Vince McMahon seems set on keeping WrestleMania on the schedule, but the decision may be out of his hands.

For 35 years, WWE WrestleMania has been one of the biggest events of the year for sports entertainment. Through the years, we’ve seen the biggest celebrities to the most incredible dream matches. But this year looks to be in big trouble, thanks to novel coronavirus.

Over the last few days, practically every major sports organization has either canceled or suspended its season because of the widespread pandemic. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon appears to be ready to go full-speed with WrestleMania 36, an event that is set to hold some 70,000 screaming fans in attendance.

This year’s event is slated to take place on Sunday, April 5 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida. While McMahon and his showcase are ready for the big night, Hillsborough County Commissioner Les Miller wants to make sure that safety takes priority over profit. In a statement to FOX 13 Tampa Bay, Miller noted that he may have to step in if conditions don’t improve.

"“I’m hoping that Vince McMahon and WrestleMania and WWE make the call. But a week from now, if they’ve not done that and we’re still in the situation we’re in, we’ll probably have to pull the plug on that.”"

In that same report, WWE issued a statement that said while they remain committed to delivering WrestleMania as scheduled, they are putting contingency plans in place just in case it does get canceled.

WWE made the decision earlier in the week to move Friday Night SmackDown from its scheduled location in Detroit to the Performance Center in Orlando. They ran the show in an empty arena. They will also do the same to Monday Night Raw this coming week.

While it’s a fact that WWE and every company that has already shut down events stand to lose a truckload of money, health and safety should ALWAYS been the No. 1 priority. It’ll be interesting to see what Vince McMahon does over the next few days.
