What if LeBron James was a boxer instead of NBA GOAT?

LeBron James is used to dropping haymakers on some of the NBA’s best in dunk form, but how would he fare as a boxer?

Beyond establishing himself as the best pound-for-pound basketball player of his generation, LeBron James is a sports fan just like the rest of us. This includes boxing, where he’s previously voiced his fandom for the likes of Floyd Mayweather, one of the top boxers and personalities in the sport, albeit for the wrong reasons.

With James’ ridiculous reach and athletic mold, it’s natural to wonder how he’d fare in other sports. Boxing, however, hasn’t provided much of a spark among sports fans. That is, until now.

A boxing fan proposed a fight between LeBron James and Mike Tyson, and even photoshopped a picture of The King in fight gear.

LeBron’s 6-9 height, paired with his 7-foot wingspan, make him a tough out in any boxing match based on pure height and weight. A match against Tyson would be especially enticing. Tyson packed a mean punch, with 44 knockouts and a 50-6 overall record, paired with a fighting weight of around 240 pounds.

LeBron’s significant height advantage would make this fight interesting, although he’d have to employ a technique similar to his boxing idol in Mayweather. Floyd is one of the best defensive fighters of all-time, featuring an impressive combinations of endurance and counter-punching. James’ strength isn’t in his power, and any NBA fan can point to his affinity for flopping and avoiding conflict as a sign of how his boxing career might go.

LeBron’s own diagnosis of his potential boxing career isn’t kind to his abilities. After the 2017 McGregor vs Mayweather fight, James suggested he’d be knocked out in the first round against Floyd. Assuming that’s the case, it’s tough to give him much of a chance against Tyson.

For the pure spectacle, though, it would be a sight to see.
