LeBron James has heartbreaking quote about missing Kobe Bryant
By Max Smith
LeBron James is still thinking about Kobe Bryant.
Six months after the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James still has the Lakers legend on his mind. In an interview with USA Today, James said “There’s not a day that doesn’t go by that I don’t think about him.”
Two of the best players of their generation, James and Bryant formed a close relationship over their years in the NBA. The night before Bryant’s death, James passed him on the all-time scoring list. The two talked that night, with Bryant congratulating him on the achievement. It would be the last time the two ever spoke.
Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash on January 26 along with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others. Bryant’s death came as a huge blow to the entire NBA community. It seemed like everything stopped when the news broke. While games continued on that day, everyone was thinking about Bryant, not the outcome on the court.
LeBron and Kobe had developed a close relationship over the years.
If there was one thing the two shared during their NBA careers, it is their sheer competitiveness. No one wanted to win more than these two, which is clear seeing how much success they’ve had in their careers.
In their first game after Bryant’s death, the Lakers held an extremely emotional pregame tribute. James offered some words for the Staples Center crowd in memory of his friend. In his speech, he said, “We’re all hurting, we’re all heartbroken”. That sentiment hasn’t changed, six months later.
LeBron will look to honor Kobe with a championship run when the NBA returns later this month. His Lakers will return against the Clippers on July 30 in Orlando.
