Spencer Rattler has some lofty expectations entering his first year as Oklahomaโs starting quarterback.
With Jalen Hurts now on the Philadelphia Eagles, the Oklahoma Sooners will have a new gunslinger leading the offense next season. That new starter in Norman will be the one and only Spencer Rattler, who will enter 2020 with some huge expectations.
Despite being just a redshirt freshman, Rattler is already being mentioned as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate despite never starting a college game. And with head coach Lincoln Riley known for having his quarterbacks air the ball out, could that lead to Rattler leading the country in touchdowns come this fall?

Spencer Rattler is a former 5-star recruit and No. 1 ranked pro-style quarterback in the country
Rattler is no stranger to having monstrous expectations put on him. A member of the 2019 class, the former Elite 11 MVP was ranked five stars, the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the nation and No. 11 player overall. He had a boatload of offers, but his relationship with the Oklahoma coaches was simply too strong for him to sign with anyone else.
Last season, Rattler spent the majority of the year on the sidelines learning behind Hurts but did see some action during his true freshman campaign. For 2019, the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder appeared in three games, completing 7-of-11 attempts for 81 yards and one touchdown.
With him set to take all the snaps in 2020, what kind of numbers will he be able to put together? Again, everyone thinks huge things will be coming from the youngster.

Riley has spoken glowingly about Rattler from the moment he stepped on campus. In the coming months, the Phoenix, Ariz. product will look to make his coach and Sooners Nation proud. In doing so, donโt be surprised if he somehow ends up leading the nation in touchdowns in his first full campaign as the starter.
