Paul Finebaum took a shot at Jim Harbaugh and Michigan.

The 2020 college football season is shaping up to be a weird one that will hopefully go off as planned as long as the proper precautions are put in place. One notable change this year is the introduction of conference-only schedules.

The Big Ten is going with a 10-week schedule in which teams have zero non-conference games. But that may not even be the biggest surprise from the schedule. Fans will notice Ohio State and Michigan are playing each other at the end of October in Week 8 of the season.

The likely scenario is the conference wants to ensure that game gets played before any potential shutdowns later in the season. Regardless, there were jokes to be made and Paul Finebaum took the perfect shot.

Paul Finebaum isn’t wrong

Jim Harbaugh has failed to lead Michigan to that elusive win over Ohio State since taking the job in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines did take it to overtime in 2016, but the rest of the matchups have been double-digit victories for the Buckeyes.

Harbaugh hasn’t been able to get Michigan over that hump in the final game of the season, ending playoff dreams in the span of a single Saturday afternoon in November. Maybe switching the game to October will turn his fortunes around.

No one yet knows what the regular season and postseason will end up looking like in 2020. All programs can do is prepare for games as usual, with new precautions in place, of course. For Harbaugh, he is now facing the most important game of his season earlier than usual.

It is hard to imagine a coach like Harbaugh getting fired after the 2020 season if his team goes 9-1 or even 8-2. But a potential 0-6 record against Ohio State is looming, and boosters may begin to question if he can ever get Michigan past their rivals. Finebaum’s troll, while in jest, may actually provide some superstitious hope to fans looking for any edge over Ohio State.
