The St. Louis Cardinals are having yet another game postponed.

The St. Louis Cardinals are an absolute mess right now. The team got off to a 2-3 start to the  year and that has been it. St. Louis last played a game on July 29 and had two series postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests.

The Cardinals had begun working out again this week and were set to take on the Chicago Cubs beginning Friday night. However, there is reportedly another positive test within the organization.

Cardinals facing a serious problem

Another postponed game means the club is in serious danger of not completing a 60-game schedule. They have played the fewest games of any team and will now need to wait for test results to ensure they won’t be putting themselves or the Cubs at risk.

The main concern here is the health of everyone on the team. It is easy for fans to see initial positive tests turn into nothing more than asymptomatic cases. However, the risk is real and that should be obvious by now. Just one individual falling seriously ill from COVID-19 can shut the season down.

Life is bigger than baseball and playing without a bubble, like the NBA, posed a problem. Players throughout the league have reportedly ignored safety measures, including members of the Cardinals.

The baseball-centric concern here is St. Louis having to play doubleheaders several times a week just to play a full 60 games. The more important concern is the health and safety of the team. The Cardinals are not even the first team to deal with an outbreak and going a week without baseball after five games shows how shaky the whole 2020 MLB season was from the start.
