Kirk Herbstreit just rained all over the Big Ten getting canceled parade.

Kirk Herbstreit has breathed life into the Big Ten actually having a college football season.

The lead college football analyst for ESPN and former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback revealed to us something certain members of the media didn’t want you to know. Herbstreit tweeted out on Monday nothing short of a bombshell, “To be clear regarding [Big Ten Football] and their impending announcement-they are looking TO DELAY the start of the season NOT TO CANCEL.

Dan Patrick’s initial report on Monday morning is quickly unraveling.

On The Dan Patrick Show Monday, Patrick said the Big Ten would cancel its college football season by Tuesday and the Pac-12 would follow. While the Big Ten has not issued a formal statement on its cancelation yet, it appears to not be true at this time. The Big Ten may be looking to delay the start of its season to the end of September like other Power 5 conferences are.

It had also been reported that 12 of the 14 Big Ten university presidents voted to cancel the season, with the only two schools voting against cancelation were the University of Iowa and the University of Nebraska. Well, it doesn’t seem like that’s true either, as incoming Ohio State University president Kristina Johnson is in favor of delaying the season and not canceling it.

Given that Ohio State is the preeminent college football program in the Big Ten, what Johnson and the university decide to do will go a long way. Why would Johnson be in favor of canceling a college football season when her university’s team has an incredible shot at winning the Big Ten and the College Football Playoff? Justin Fields is a special player and he wants to play this season real bad.

The ACC plans to move forward with its 2020 college football season. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is willing to try everything to give his Power 5 conference a shot at a season. It seems that the Texas Longhorns are dead-set on playing college football in the Big 12. While the Group of 5 may be without the MAC and the Mountain West this year, maybe more conferences will play?

If what Herbstreit tweeted out is true, then maybe the Big Ten will find a way to play after all.
